JOYERIA
INSPIRACIÓN
The Perception ring is a refined tribute to the cultural and artistic heritage of the Zapotecs, a flourishing pre-Hispanic civilization in what is now Oaxaca, Mexico. Adorned with a distinctive geometric motif, this ring features a diamond surrounded by small triangles, a design deeply rooted in Zapotec tradition.
The Zapotecs, among the most important cultures of ancient Mexico, left behind majestic archaeological sites such as Monte Alban and Mitla. These sites are a testament to their grandeur and artistic sophistication. So-called "Greek" decorations, comprising complex geometric patterns, were ubiquitous in the ornamentation of facades, tombs, ceramics, and most likely clothing.
Today, these geometric motifs persist among the Zapotec ethnic group, notably found in the rugs and embroidered clothing made by local artisans. The "Perception" ring draws inspiration from this rich tradition, capturing the essence of Zapotec motifs and adapting them into a timeless and elegant form.
This geometric motif inspires reflection and interpretation. When visiting these archaeological sites, one can see that this simple diamond is perceived in multiple ways, depending on the origins and cultures of the observers. It is this diversity of interpretations that inspired the name of this ring, "perception," symbolizing the idea that everything is a matter of perspective.
Even among the Zapotec, interpretations vary. Most see this motif as a geometric representation of the Ojo de Dios, a protective talisman originally made of threads woven around a wooden cross. Although particularly well-known among the Huichol ethnic group, the Ojo de Dios has variations throughout Mexico. It is often seen as an eye or portal through which the gods can observe the human world.
"Perception" is a bridge between times and cultures, a celebration of Zapotec craftsmanship and spirituality, and a constant reminder that beauty lies in the diversity of perspectives.
