JOYERIA
INSPIRACIÓN
The "Kukulkan" pendant is a custom-made piece combining a hand-carved design inspired by pre-Hispanic Maya art from Mexico and a round, organically shaped light blue turquoise stone.
Kukulkan is one of the major deities in the Maya pantheon: the Feathered Serpent, a civilizing god associated with knowledge, transformation, and renewal. He shares many traits with Quetzalcóatl, his Aztec counterpart. As the god of the four elements, Kukulkan embodies creation, resurrection, and reincarnation. He is also credited with the gift of maize, the sacred crop essential to the survival of the Maya civilization.
To create this custom piece — with the only request being the inclusion of a stone and a pre-Hispanic Maya figure — we chose to depict Kukulkan, in homage to his profound role in Mesoamerican iconography and spirituality. The light sky-blue turquoise enhances this symbolism: among the Maya, this color evokes water, rain, celestial deities, and fertility.
The engraved and cut design on this pendant is based on an authentic depiction of the Feathered Serpent from a pre-Columbian relief at the Maya site of Yaxchilan, a post-classic ceremonial center located in Chiapas, Mexico. More specifically, the design is adapted from Lintel 15 of Structure 22, which portrays Queen Wak Tuun, consort of Bird Jaguar IV, performing a bloodletting ritual. This sacred act conjures the Vision Serpent, a mystical entity often associated with Kukulkan himself. We extracted and stylized the serpent's silhouette to serve as the core of the composition.
On the finished pendant, the turquoise is set along the serpent’s back, like an offering or sacred energy it bears. This unique piece weaves together cosmology, sacred history, and contemporary craftsmanship.
Metal: plata de ley (925).
Finish: oxidized and polished.
