Hiko, japanese wing pendant in silver and red coral

The Hiko pendant is designed around a deep red fossilized coral cabochon, set on a finely cut silver plate shaped like a bird’s wing. The wing is adorned with radiating semi-circular patterns, evoking both the delicate texture of feathers and the natural arabesques found on certain birds’ wings. Small circular stamps punctuate the design, reminiscent of the moon and anchoring this bird in the mystery of the night.

This piece may be inspired by the Tengu, the half-human, half-bird creatures of Japanese mythology. Closely linked to forests and mountains, they were once seen as mischievous and sometimes malevolent spirits before being recognized as protectors—kami watching over travelers and hermits. Their wings symbolize both freedom and spiritual power, making them messengers between the celestial and earthly realms. Even today, Tengu hold an important place in Japanese culture, appearing in traditional festivals as well as in numerous manga and contemporary stories.

The pendant bears the name Hiko, meaning "flight" in Japanese—an invitation to let imagination soar and to follow one’s aspirations without fear. More than just jewelry, it is a talisman evoking travel, independence, and a deep connection to natural forces.

The back of the pendant features a circular design, revealing the underside of the fossilized coral cabochon and highlighting its organic texture and shape. This hidden detail adds a secret dimension to the piece, a tribute to inner beauty and the richness of the natural world.
