Flutter, blue butterfly wing pendant in silver and turquoise

Flutter pendant is a custom-made piece created for a man who selected this deep blue turquoise from our online catalog of semi-precious stones.

Our client was captivated by this unique, asymmetrical turquoise, where intense shades of blue blend with brown-black inclusions edged with green. To him, it evoked the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, bordered by lush islands and a reef teeming with marine life. This stone embodied his longing for escape, freedom, and serenity—a desire for lightness and joyful wandering, like a butterfly carried by the wind.

Inspired by this vision, we designed a pendant that, while remaining masculine, would express softness, calm, and deep inner peace. The cabochon’s shape reminded us of a butterfly wing, symbolizing airy movement, delicate fluttering, and unbound freedom. It conjures the image of a tropical butterfly with shimmering blue reflections, dancing beneath a radiant sky over an azure sea.

We set this stunning Chinese turquoise, nearly 1.97 in (5 cm) long, on an elongated silver base, with one edge irregularly cut to suggest the natural delicacy and asymmetry of a butterfly wing. The silver setting remains intentionally minimalist, allowing the stone’s vibrant hues to take center stage.

The back of the pendant is adorned with small openwork circles, revealing the reverse side of the cabochon while echoing the circular patterns often found on butterfly wings, reminiscent of protective eyespots. This subtle detail adds refinement and deepens the connection to the natural world.

I named this pendant Flutter, an English word that means both "beating" and "fluttering," in tribute to the blue butterfly of tropical islands—a symbol of transformation, freedom, and poetic wandering.

 

Metal: plata de ley (925).

Finish: raw, oxidized, brushed.
