Print, Japanese ukiyo-e pendant in silver and tiffany

The “Print” pendant is a custom-made creation centered around a stunning Tiffany stone, also known as bertrandite, which immediately captivated our client among the unique gemstones in our collection. This rare and enigmatic stone evokes a fragment of a Japanese landscape captured in mineral form.

The exceptional bertrandite has been set in a minimalist design to let its full beauty shine. It is mounted on a delicately shaped silver wire that closely follows the natural contours of the stone. This open setting allows the entire surface of the gem, including the reverse side, to remain visible—appearing to float freely within its silver cradle. Strong prongs discreetly embrace its edges, securing the piece without interrupting the visual flow.

The Tiffany stone presents a deep, nuanced matrix of purples and greys, traversed by black lines—sometimes fine, sometimes bold—that seem to move freely across its surface, like strokes from an ink-laden brush. This irregular network of lines resembles a Japanese woodblock print, or ukiyo-e—a traditional art form rooted in ephemerality and quiet contemplation.

The dark tracings might suggest the silhouette of a tree branch—perhaps a Japanese cherry blossom—stylized with that delicate precision so characteristic of Japanese aesthetics: the pursuit of the perfect gesture, meaningful emptiness, and discreet beauty. The soft, silky hues of the stone recall the subtle washes of ink on rice paper, where each tone seems suspended in light.
