JOYERIA
INSPIRACIÓN
The "Ammonite eoderoceras" silver necklace depicts a marine creature, once master of the oceans. Now frozen in stone, it appears as a fossil, a silent witness to a history hundreds of millions of years old. Ammonite shells, similar to those of snails but much larger and more complex, reveal a fascinating internal architecture: an orderly sequence of chambers separated by curved partitions called septa, often forming sinuous patterns called sutures. These structures were not only aesthetic; they allowed the ammonite to adjust its buoyancy, much like modern submarines, and provided it with secure shelter from predators.
The origin of the name "ammonite," inspired by their spiral shell, evokes the curled horns of rams. Pliny the Elder called them "cornua Ammonis"—the horns of Ammon—in reference to the Egyptian god Amun, often depicted wearing such horns.
Eoderoceras is a species of ammonite dating back to the Early Jurassic period, approximately 190 million years ago. It is distinguished by its regular spiral shape and pronounced ribs, and belonged to a highly diverse group of ammonites. This pendant is a faithful reproduction, made by casting, of an Eoderoceras specimen discovered on a beach in Dorset, England—a site world-renowned for its paleontological richness, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name "Jurassic Coast."
The ammonite transcends time and space to become a symbol of life. Its spiral, often associated with the Fibonacci sequence, evokes infinity, organic growth, evolution, but also return and renewal. It is a powerful reminder that every end marks the beginning of a new journey. Throughout the ages, it has fascinated men—whether scholars, artists, or mystics—inviting them to meditate on the laws of nature, the passage of time, and the mystery of life that perpetuates itself in the stone.
